Lefkada or Lefkas is an island of the Ionian Sea and together with the islands of Corfu, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Zakynthos and Paxos constitute the region of the Ionian Islands. It is the fourth largest island in the Ionian Sea (320 km²) and the fourth in a population of about 23,000.
Because of its geographical location it is connected with Aitoloakarnania with a floating bridge about 20 meters long. Together with Evia are the two unique islands in Greece where access is made by road. The highest mountain is Stavrota, with steep slopes and 1,184 meters high.
Nydri is a seaside village in the prefecture of Lefkada in Greece. It has a population of 865 inhabitants. It is located in the eastern part of the island and is the most famous and cosmopolitan tourist resort of the prefecture. The village became well-known when, in 1963, Aristotle Onassis, the shipowner, purchased the opposite island of Scorpios. Since then the village has hosted a number of celebrities from around the world. At the harbor of the village there is today a statue of Onassis.
